Ben Molina
Ben Molina – Candidate for District 2
How do you plan to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity?
I believe that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, should have access to equal opportunities and fair treatment. As a city council member, I will support policies that reflect this principle. It’s important that our local government works to remove barriers that prevent any resident from accessing city services or participating fully in the community.
What is your position on the local government’s role in protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from discrimination?
I support the idea that local government should protect all residents from unfair treatment, including those in the LGBTQ+ community. The goal is to ensure that everyone in Corpus Christi feels secure and respected, without facing discrimination in housing, employment, or access to services. I would support efforts that safeguard these rights.
How would you promote initiatives or policies that support diversity and inclusivity across Corpus Christi?
Diversity can bring value to our community, and I believe inclusivity is important. I support initiatives that promote understanding and respect among different groups. It’s essential to find a balance that benefits everyone and fosters a welcoming environment without creating unnecessary conflict. My focus will be on practical solutions that enhance the quality of life for all residents.
In addition, we would like to know your thoughts on the current situation with the Corpus Christi Public Library advisory board, which has proposed removing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles from the library’s collection development policy. Many residents are concerned about the potential impact this could have on ensuring our public libraries represent the diverse needs of our community.
I believe the Library Board should function like other City Boards, making recommendations to the City Council while being guided by a highly qualified librarian. It’s important for the Board to collaborate and address differing opinions. Public libraries must serve all community members by offering a diverse range of materials and perspectives. My goal is to ensure that the library remains a welcoming place for everyone and continues to reflect the diversity of our city without promoting any particular agenda.
