Carolyn Vaughn

Carolyn Vaughn – Candidate for State Representative District 34

Carolyn Vaughn has a history of opposing LGBTQIA+ rights in her public office. As a Nueces County Commissioner, Vaughn made headlines in 2019 when she refused to support a proclamation recognizing Pride Week in Corpus Christi. During the Commissioner’s Court meeting, Vaughn stated that although the LGBTQIA+ community has the right to celebrate, she felt no obligation to support the proclamation due to her personal beliefs. Vaughn was quoted saying, “Just because you are the LGBTQ or whatever it’s called community doesn’t mean I have to suck it up and support it.” She further expressed that she does not believe government should be involved in such proclamations  .

Her refusal to support the Pride proclamation was met with criticism from local LGBTQIA+ leaders and organizations, including LULAC Para Todos and Pride Corpus Christi, who condemned her stance and called for an apology, emphasizing that Vaughn’s actions failed to represent all of her constituents.

As of now, Carolyn Vaughn has not responded to our request for comments on LGBTQIA+ issues. We will update this page if any responses are received.
